Brigitte König

Dr. Brigitte König is a Professor of Medical Microbiology and Virology, with expertise spanning infectious immunology and infectious epidemiology. Holding degrees in biology, chemistry, and medicine, as well as a PhD in medical microbiology and infectious immunology, she has held senior academic leadership roles at Leipzig University and the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg, where she also led initiatives in molecular microbiology, diagnostics, and biotechnology. Dr. König is the founder and Managing Director of Magdeburg Molecular Detections (MMD), a laboratory dedicated to advancing diagnostic insight into complex health conditions. A prolific contributor to the field, she has authored five books, multiple book chapters, and hundreds of peer-reviewed publications. She is an active member of leading professional societies, including the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, and has received numerous honors, including a Postdoctoral Fellow Award from the American Society of Microbiology.
