This session will examine what the science currently tells us about gut dysbiosis in Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS), how fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) may help restore microbial diversity and modulate gut immune signaling, and practical guidance for practitioners on evaluating FMT as an adjunct strategy, including pre-treatment preparation, FMT administration, and post-treatment support.

A meaningful subset (10–20%) of patients treated for Lyme disease go on to develop PTLDS, a debilitating condition characterized by chronic fatigue, brain fog, sleep disturbances, and pain.

Emerging research has identified a distinct, reproducible gut microbiome signature in PTLDS patients, suggesting that prolonged Lyme treatment may leave the gut microbiome in a state that passive recovery alone cannot repair—and that restoring microbial diversity through FMT may offer a meaningful path forward for this complex population.
